Sleeping off Gastritis…

Hello everyone!

So today is Wednesday, March 13th. The temperature was 41 degrees when I left the house and according to The Weather Channel, it’s going to go all the way up to 69 degrees this afternoon. Heh, only 20 degrees change… Never mind that yesterday it was 75 degrees all day long! What can you do, gotta love this Global Warming.

So, yesterday I had to take a sick day from work. I had a gastritis flare up and could not leave my bathroom, for the life of me. It’s always interesting sending out an e-mail explaining why I’m not reporting to work.

It had been a while since the last time I had one of my flare ups keep me from work… I’ve been dealing with gastritis since the early 2000s, thanks to the fact that I barely ate anything in High School. I remember never eating breakfast, running an average of 6-8 miles/day, having a weight training class, a JROTC class, and being part of the Marching Band. I was lucky if I ate dinner at my friend’s house.

The bad eating habits carried over after High School, where I worked at different cafeterias in Hialeah and Downtown Miami: I ate when I could. Not always healthy foods, mind you.

What aggravates my gastritis is stress. I had a horrible day the day before (please check out my blog on codependency) and it just aggravated the situation a lot more.
One of the scary parts about having gastritis is that “…may increase the risk of developing stomach cancer”, according to WebMD.

Now, in my late 20s, I find myself not being able to eat fried, spicy, or over seasoned foods; drink alcohol or sodas daily… Not even drinking good ol’ green tea seems to help it! On the bright side, ginger tea seems to help it a bit, although not the best tasting of the bunch.  Sleep, although a rare commodity for me nowadays, seems to work wonders as well.

In other news:

  • I was able to go to my local T.J. Maxx yesterday, (as soon as I was able to escape my room), and bought random home necessities
  • I took my son to eat at Denny’s and, even though I didn’t have much to eat, he was able to enjoy a Hot Fudge Brownie & loved it

Thanks for reading & buenos días,
